Shrink-wrapped packaging: things can hardly get any lighter

Ultra-light PET containers in ultra-thin film: no problem for Krones’ new Variopac Pro packer.
Shrink-wrapped packages are energy-economical and therefore eco-friendly. No other form of packaging consumes fewer resources and energy. PE production, for example, uses merely a third of the energy needed for manufacturing paper. With PE film, moreover, only a fraction of the material involved with cartons is required. Shrink-film saves costs, with profitability for the client boosted by lower material costs, reduced storage space requirement thanks to a smaller volume, and lower transportation costs thanks to a lighter weight. And the thinner a film is, the more significant the savings become. At the interpack, Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, accordingly exhibited a packaging option featuring an ultra-light PET container in an ultra-thin film: the recently premiered 0.5-litre PET bottle, weighing only 8.8 g, was shrink-wrapped using a PET film only 25 µ thick. Things can hardly get any lighter. The lightweights were handled on an equally new Variopac Pro packer.
